As anyone who has spent enough time looking through old family photos will know, it is wild how strong genetics can be. Most of us bear more of a resemblance than we think to our older relatives. That being said, there is no doubt that our appearances are affected by other factors, too—for example, as a certain brand of millennial loves to point out, we may look a little younger at the same age because of the way we dress or our hairstyle.

Of course, there are also those who claim that for whatever reason, people simply looked better in the olden days. This is a topic that has been the subject of some discussion and roasting recently after a man criticized how a contemporary teenage boy looked side by side with a professional photo of his great-grandfather. It has to be said, it's difficult not to notice the family resemblance.
