People Discuss the World's Surprising Lack of Blimps

Blimps are weird. But they are also cool. As a kid I would fantasize about traveling the world in one of the oblong ships. I also associated them with Blimpie, which for some reason I was convinced had to be the premiere sandwich eatery. I assumed that there were tons of blimps around after seeing them on television, in books, and hovering above sporting events. But apparently, I was wrong. On March 19th, 2022, my image of blimps - and their prevalence - was completely shattered by Twitter user @teddygoff, who shared that there are merely 25 blimps floating around our fair planet. Twenty-five. Goff also provided the receipts, courtesy of “blimp Wikipedia,” a sector of the internet that I never thought existed.

The tweet garnered some pretty serious response from people who were equally surprised, people who had more blimp knowledge to drop, and of course, a few jokesters.

David Cowden falls into the latter camp, because he felt the need to remind us of this horrific Minion blimp's existence.

When some people expressed concern at Teddy's deep investigation, he paid no mind.

Though it's clear that some people aren't as disturbed by this blimp news, it's the people who fully embraced and built on the news that deserve our attention. Here are some users that fall into that superior camp.

@NickSmileyFace came here to drop some knowledge, and blew our minds even further:

Some commenters suddenly felt the urge to protect the airships.

We may have learned more about blimps than we ever intended, but the real treasure was the jokes we enjoyed along the way, like these:

Here's to blimps. Hopefully none of us have to experience their extinction.
