Mama Cat Befriends an Opossum, Leaves Her Kittens with Him to Babysit

Knowledge on North America's Opossums has started to become more and more known due to social media. People who help rescue them or simply know a lot about these marsupials share their mild tempered side. It's not recommend for people to approach a wild opossum, but they were given a bad rap for far too long. These little wild guys help keep the tick population down and can't get rabies due to their low body temperature. So once you know the facts, and get past their large rat-like tail, they're actually absolutely adorable. 

TikToker @hollertrash has an opossum she named Onion. She step up a little home with bedding in the barn for the little guy and he comes and goes as he pleases. The little guy is loving and comes home every night for dinner and some belly scratches. One day, when the TikToker was going in to check on Onion, she found something very peculiar. She looked at the back of his little home and saw a pile of kittens. 

“Uhhhh. Something ain't right here”

The TikToker is confused, but can see that her opossum buddy is doing a great job keeping an eye on these little guys. Some viewers are concerned, thinking that the opossum is going to eat them, which is ridiculous because opossums tend to eat fruits, grains, and insects—not kittens… But still, the mystery of where these little kittens came from was perplexing. Onion is a male, so it's not like he found them and adopted them with this motherly instincts. So she waited to see what would happen. 

Mama Cat Returns

Eventually, the mama cat returns and it's obvious that her and Onion are good friends. They must have known each other for a while now, and the mama cat felt comfortable leaving her kittens with the opossum. Onion might not be the best cat mom, be he definitely kept these guys safe as the mama cat was off doing whatever she needed to do. It wasn't like the mom cat found Onion's home while he wasn't there, had the kittens, and then was surprised when he came home. It appears, that she strategically chose his home with him in it.

You can see the mama cat and Onion the opossum hanging out while she's feeding her kittens and the two are just like a little family. When the mama cat isn't there, Onion is there to watch the kittens, even though he may take a nap during his duty. It might be an odd couple, but it's working and it's friggin' adorable!
