Is there a connection between the mascots of X/Y and ORAS?

Apologies for the length! Also, I reserve the right to be completely and entirely wrong. TL;DR Version: Groudon = Omega = Destruction = Yveltal and Kyogre = Alpha = Life = Xerneas. Rayquaza and Zygarde also appear to have a similar relationship with their fellow regional legendaries.
