One of the country's most frequent flyers doesn't need the pampering of first class, or the fine wine. In fact when they travel, they sit in a quite unusual spot. And no it's not a chair. It's actually under the chair!
His name is Brogan and by the Guide Dog Australia, he is also believed to be the country's most travelled guide dog. In fact he just celebrated taking his 300th flight this month.
His name is Brogan and by the Guide Dog Australia, he is also believed to be the country's most travelled guide dog. In fact he just celebrated taking his 300th flight this month.
Brogan is a loyal Labrador that has been accompanying his handler James Bennett. This time he flew with Bennett to Alice Springs, to provide services to the blind and low-vision community. Bennett was pleased to say "It's a huge milestone and a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the degree of independence the dogs give us."
And what's better than celebrating such an occasion than with cake? Now this day was called to have different kind of cake. This cake was specially made out of meat and carrots, just for Brogan, who ate it all up within seconds!
So how does Brogan know Sydney Airport better than most? Well, about 75 times a year, the talented guide dog guides Mr. Bennett through check-in and security, before finding the closest counter so they can be directed to the right gate. Cutely enough, Brogan also gets his very own boarding pass. Once they pass the gate, he helps the 70-year-old Bennett board, guiding him past the ticket desk and onto the plane.
Once on the plane, and once Bennett is seated and settled in, Brogan takes his seat underneath his handler's seat. This is where, like many aboard the flight… he takes a much needed nap.
Bennett jokingly said, "If I didn't have the dog, I'd have to have an attendant with me… the attendant would have to stay with me the whole flight and look after my needs […] When you think of the penalty rates for the weekends – this works out to be cheaper!"
Not to mention a bit dull! What's better than spending your entire flight with you best friend!?
All we have to say is, well done Brogan! Cheers to your 300th flight!
