Rejected from cat adoption because of LEGO?

'To be frank, that's absolutely ridiculous.' 0000

I applied to adopt a cat from a local cat rescue and re homing charity. They rejected my application because I have a fair amount of LEGO models on display. Apparently that's a big no no for cats. I have since purchased display cases for all

my LEGO, and re applied to adopt a cat again. They said the LEGO inside the cases is still dangerous as a cat could knock the whole case over and get to the LEGO. Any advice on how to secure my LEGO so it's safe for a cat? Many thanks. Future cat owner(hopefully)

fondofbooks Honestly this sounds a bit crazy. I've never heard anything like that before. Maybe try another rescue?

jwoolman Some "rescues" are cat hoarders and don't really want to let them go.... They also are infamous for crazy restrictions. If you have a vet, tell them you are looking for a cat and to pass along your contact info if he knows anyone looking for

homes. Also try the municipal shelters, they may not be so ridiculous because they really do want to get the cats out of the cages.

vetaktus Tabbycat To be frank, that's absolutely ridiculous. I have 5 cats and masses of lego kits everywhere, big ones like the titanic and heaps of smaller kits with little pieces and if we exclude Havoc who thinks the coliseum is her bed cause she fits - other than that none of my cats touch any of the lego

Quick_Banana5600 I found my cats for free. Abandoned. I have tones of legos. Never had a problem.

sknsz Uh have you seen the trend of tuxedo cat owners with their tuxedo cat Lego models? There are so so many! Also... the same people who love legos tend to love cats and vice versa.. idk what this rescue center is talking about

AdOtherwise3676 Um. Is there any other place you could adopt your cat from. A shelter perhaps. Rescues are notorious for having ridiculously difficult application parameters.
  • 15
Sounds like this place has had bad experiences with legos. and cats?

Spiritual_Being5845 My cat swallowed an embroidery needle before she came to live with me. Should rescues ban anyone who does hand sewing and embroidery because the cat might eat the needle?

yeloumbrela7bluhorn If the basis is the cat could knock the entire thing down, then is anything in any home safe?
  • 18
jammerb How do they know you have LEGO models on display?

thelakesfolklore The humane society and shelters have many cats that need homes, and unlike a local rescue, some of these shelters are faced with overcrowding and potential euthanasia (depends on the location). :(

I think the shelters are more likely to work with you. I hope you meet your furry friend soon :)

Gloomy-Trainer-2452 That's crazy lol People don't like to talk about it, but whilst most shelters and rescues are great, others are honestly borderline unethical with the way they hoard cats and prevent adoption over very small things. It goes beyond just ensuring a rescue cat's safety.

Try municipal shelters. You could also look at sites like Gumtree. Don't buy expensive purebred cats from online sites like that because they're most certainly kitten mills (unethical mass-breeding facilities), but look for rehoming. People

often put free or cheap cats and kittens on those sites - kittens from accidental litters, cats they can no longer care for but don't want to send to a shelter, etc.
