Ray Dolin recently set out to hitchhike across the U.S. as research for a memoir called The Kindness of America. Naturally, he was shot -- partway through his adventure -- in a random drive-by, while waiting for a ride on the shoulder of a highway in Montana.
Dolin's now recovering, and authorities picked up his assailant four hours after the shooting.
"It's totally random," said local Sheriff Glen Meier. "These two gentlemen did not know each other. They'd never seen each other and we don't know of a motive. We don't know why this happened."
No word on whether the book will retain its title.
