A "blue moon" typically refers to a second full moon exposed in one calendar month but tonight a special type of seasonal blue moon will be visible. Most seasons contain only three full moons with four occurring on rare occasions. The third full moon to occur in a four moon season is also referred to as a blue moon and it will be peaking tonight at 9:45 p.m. eastern time. Be sure to look up tonight to catch a glimpse, because the next time a seasonal blue moon will occur will be three years from now on May 21st, 2016.
