I genuinely don't get all the negativity surrounding The Rings of Power. Personally, I love it! Sure, Amazon has made some bold changes to Tolkien's lore, and I'd prefer if they stuck a little closer to the source material, but at the end of the day, this is still Lord of the Rings. The production value is incredible, the world-building is mesmerizing, and I'm fully invested in where this story is heading.
That's why I was thrilled to see that The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed The Rings of Power is officially returning for a third season. Filming is set to begin this spring at Shepperton Studios in the UK, marking a shift away from the New Zealand locations that have defined Middle-earth on screen for decades (I don't think I like that at all). But the biggest revelation? Season 3 is jumping forward several years, bringing us right into The War of the Elves and Sauron, a pivotal moment in Middle-earth's history. This means we're finally going to see Sauron crafting the One Ring, the very event that will set the stage for all the conflicts that follow.
The show has also confirmed its Season 3 director lineup, with returning names like Charlotte Brandstrom (Shōgun) and Sanaa Hamri (The Wheel of Time), alongside newcomer Stefan Schwartz (The Boys, The Walking Dead). It's clear that Amazon is going all in on the next chapter, and with the second season becoming Prime Video's most-watched returning season ever, it's not hard to see why.
For all the online discourse, the numbers don't lie - The Rings of Power is still Amazon's biggest TV success, with over 170 million viewers worldwide. And with Season 3 diving deeper into the legend of Sauron and the forging of the One Ring, I can't wait to see how they bring this next chapter to life.
