Well... that was fast. HBO just announced that The Last of Us has officially been renewed for Season 3—and we haven't even seen Season 2 yet! I get it. The first season was a masterpiece. Easily the best video game adaptation ever made (with Fallout now officially trailing close behind). But if you've played The Last of Us Part II, then you know why I'm currently curled up in a corner whispering "I'm fine" to myself.
The second season drops April 13, and from what we know, it's only going to cover part of the second game. That's right. The emotional gut punches are being rationed over multiple seasons. We're in this for the long haul, folks. Creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin say the story could stretch to four seasons—and given what they pulled off in Season 1, I trust them completely. I just don't know if my heart can take it.
Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and the rest of the cast are returning, alongside newcomers like Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. But before we even meet them on screen again, HBO's already making sure the pain continues with a green light for Season 3. Thanks?
Anyway, congrats to The Last of Us for being so good it hurts. Literally.
