The truth is still out there—but is anyone still looking for it?
Ryan Coogler, the brilliant mind behind Black Panther, is officially working on a reboot of The X-Files, and while part of me is thrilled, another part is bracing for disappointment. Not because I don't believe in Coogler's talent (I do, deeply), but because rebooting The X-Files in 2025 feels like trying to teach a TikTok generation how to read Morse Code. It's a tough ask.
Let's be honest—times have changed. The original show premiered in a world where people were glued to grainy news reports about UFOs and whispered government cover-ups. Now? We literally just found strong evidence of life on another planet and the collective response was... nothing? HOW is no one talking about that?! People, it's literal proof we are not alone! why is everyone so quiet?!
On the other hand, The heart of The X-Files was its eerie cocktail of paranoia, fear of the unknown, and good ol' government conspiracy. If there was ever a moment in history where the "trust no one" energy could thrive again—it's now. And maybe that's why this could work. Coogler says some of these new episodes will be "really f—ing scary," and honestly? We could use a little healthy fear of the shadows again.
Gillian Anderson has said she's not ruling out a cameo ("maybe I'll pop in for a little something something"), and that alone gives me hope. If anyone can make us believe again, it's Scully (even though she never did)
So yeah—I want to believe. I just hope Coogler can get us there.
