You know that one friend you still technically consider a friend, but only because nothing ever officially happened? You didn't have a fight, you didn't block each other, but they just... vanished? That's Rockstar Games now. We used to roll deep. Midnight launch parties, chaos in San Andreas, cheat codes that gave us tanks and jetpacks and a deep sense of purpose. We were tight.
But ever since 2013? Silence. The occasional text. Maybe a meme. Once in a while, they show up in your feed with a new patch for GTA Online, like "Hey bro, let's hang soon." And now, we got another one of those emotionally unavailable updates: GTA 6 has officially been delayed until May 26, 2026.
Here's the full blog post. It's short, dry, and just vague enough to make you check the calendar twice like you accidentally stepped into a time loop. And yes, they're sorry. And yes, they need more time to make the game perfect. And sure, we get it. Quality takes time. But also… 13 years?
Just to be clear: Grand Theft Auto V came out on PlayStation 3. That's two console generations ago. It launched the same year as Frozen, and now They are already working on Frozen 3.
Remember when we used to get a new GTA every few years? GTA III in 2001. Vice City in 2002. San Andreas in 2004. GTA IV in 2008. GTA V in 2013. That was the golden age, when Rockstar was the cool friend who always had a new story to tell. Now they're the guy who keeps RSVP'ing "maybe" to every party.
And yes, I want a polished game. I don't want a rushed, buggy disaster. I want GTA 6 to blow my mind, melt my GPU, and maybe even teach me something about myself. But I also want it before I need bifocals and a back brace.
Now we're staring down the barrel of another year of "Things That Will Happen Before GTA 6" memes. A raccoon will become president. A new Gremlins movie will come out. NASA will find alien life and it will poke it's green head from behind a space rock and ask if GTA 6 is out yet. Somewhere, Duke Nukem is laughing.
Rockstar, buddy, I miss you. I know you're busy. I know greatness takes time. But come on. Throw us a trailer. A mission teaser. A single radio station playlist. Anything. Don't just leave us ghosted until 2026.
We used to be tight.
