Well, it's official. Shrek 5 has been pushed back again, this time all the way to June 30, 2027. Which means we'll be nearly a quarter-century removed from the first Shrek by the time this thing finally hits theaters.
And here's the thing… I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand - it's Shrek! That should be enough to get me hyped. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, even Zendaya joining the cast. Donkey alone is worth the price of admission.
On the other hand… I can't remember the last time I saw a good Shrek movie. Oh wait, I can. It was 2004. Yes, Shrek 2 came out 21 years ago and it has been downhill since. And that little teaser they gave us earlier this year? Did absolutely nothing for me.
Still… it's Shrek. The movie that gave us "What are you doing in my swamp?!", the Duloc song, and a karaoke dance party that somehow worked. So yeah, I'll be there in 2027. But I'll be cautiously optimistic. Far, Far Away better be worth the wait.
