Well, this is a nice surprise. James Gunn's Superman has only been out for a month, made over $331 million domestic and over $500 million globally, and now it's already coming to digital on August 15… wait… that's today!. Which means I get to watch it again… and so do my kids, who are still talking about it.
This was their first Superman movie. And honestly? I'm glad it was this Superman. David Corenswet nails the role - heroic, hopeful, just the right amount of awkward charm. Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane is sharp and funny, Nicholas Hoult's Lex is deliciously smug, and yes… I may have teared up more than once.
Gunn says the early digital release is to make sure Peacemaker fans can catch up, since the movie directly sets up Season 2. Green Lantern/Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn) all make appearances that will pay off in the show.
The digital version comes with deleted scenes, a gag reel, and Gunn's commentary. You'll be able to buy or rent it on all major digital platforms - Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google TV, Vudu, and more. Physical copies drop September 23 with even more goodies, including a featurette about Krypto, which my kids will probably watch on loop.
I loved this movie in theaters, they loved it in theaters, and now we get to have Superman movie night at home. That's a win.
