Remember malls? Big shiny cathedrals of retail where you could spend an entire Saturday walking around, eating questionable food court pizza, and maybe catching a movie? Most of those places are ghost towns now, but Netflix just came up with a very 2025 solution: turn those abandoned spaces into giant, 100,000-square-foot theme parks for its own shows.
The first two "Netflix House" locations are opening soon - Philadelphia on November 12 at King of Prussia Mall, and Dallas on December 11 at Galleria Dallas. Inside you'll find interactive worlds from Wednesday, Stranger Things, Squid Game, and more. You can grab selfies with Queen Charlotte, ride the One Piece crew's energy with friends, eat at Netflix Bites, or sit down for screenings of Netflix originals. Some experiences are free, others you'll need tickets for. Hopefully that Squid Game area is more chill than the show.
Is it genius? Is it misguided? Probably a bit of both. But honestly, if you're going to take over the bones of America's dead malls, filling them with Squid Game obstacle courses and Stranger Things Hawkins Labs sounds… kind of perfect.
Would I go? Of course I would. Would I roll my eyes the entire time while also secretly enjoying myself? Also yes.
