Well, can't say I didn't see that coming. OpenAI just confirmed that ChatGPT is getting an adult-only mode, allowing verified users to access "mature" content - including erotica - starting in December.
CEO Sam Altman said the move is part of a "treat adults like adults" principle, after the platform had been pretty restrictive for a while, especially around anything remotely emotional or sexual. In short: ChatGPT is about to get spicy, customizable, and a whole lot less corporate-sounding.
Now here's my unpopular opinion - good. I genuinely don't understand the moral panic around letting AI handle the parts of human interaction we don't want humans to do. Erotic chat, fantasy roleplay, adult art and yes, even AI generated adult movies - all of it. If someone wants to have a "nasty conversation" with no one on the other end, or look at digital pixels that resemble a human body - go for it. Who's being harmed here?
If anything, this might actually make the internet a little safer for real people. Offload the uncomfortable, the exploitative, the "too weird for words" stuff to machines. That's literally what they're for. Are we really going to fight to keep those jobs in human hands?
Am I crazy here? Shouldn't we want this to happen?
