Okay, this is not a drill - the Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Invincible universes are about to collide.
Hasbro and Skybound Entertainment (yep, Robert Kirkman's company - the genius behind Invincible and The Walking Dead) are teaming up for a new animated series called Energon Universe, based on Kirkman's hit comics. And before you ask - yes, this is the crossover we've been teased about since Rise of the Beasts, but with an Invincible-style twist.
The show is set to blend the worlds of Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Kirkman's own Void Rivals into one massive animated universe. It's being run by Joe Henderson (aka the Lucifer showrunner), and the tone will be a bit more mature - so expect some serious emotional punches alongside the explosions and robot mayhem.
As someone who grew up obsessed with Transformers and still can't get enough of Invincible, this feels like a dream project. G.I. Joe is… also there (sorry, but that show was never actually good - it's pure nostalgia fuel. fight me). Still, the idea of Optimus Prime sharing a universe with Kirkman-level storytelling? Inject that straight into my Saturday morning.
If Energon Universe lands, this could easily be the best crossover we've had in years - and maybe, just maybe, the one that finally makes "shared universes" cool again.
