I've been saying for years that Star Wars needs to finally let the Skywalker saga rest. Move on! There are so many stories to tell in that galaxy far far away! well, Turns out, Mark Hamill has my back. In a recent interview promoting his new film, Hamill said he's done with playing Luke Skywalker. No more Force ghosts, no more pop-ins from the other side. The man himself says it's time to focus on the new generation of Jedi.
Honestly? I couldn't agree more. I've been yelling into the void about how it's time for Star Wars to leave Luke and the gang alone and let some new blood take over. Hamill basically said what I've been thinking: "I had my time, and I'm grateful, but let's focus on the future." Preach, Mark!
I love Luke Skywalker as much as the next nostalgia-loving Star Wars geek, but come on - how many times do we need to see the same legacy characters show up, dispense a little wisdom, and vanish again?
Rey's got her own story to tell now in New Jedi Order. Let her tell it. Let her shine. The Skywalker story was epic, but it's over. And while I'll always be ready to rewatch the original trilogy for the thousandth time, I'd rather see Star Wars evolve into something new than keep retreading the same ground.
So thank you, Mark Hamill. Thank you for giving Luke the perfect send-off and for telling everyone - fans and filmmakers alike - to move on. The galaxy is huge, and there are so many other stories to tell. Let's explore them.
