Mellissa of Tiny but Mighty Kitten Rescue, located in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, took a pregnant stray into her care and a few weeks later into foster care, the cat gave birth to a lovely litter of kittens.
The new mama cat's name is June. And just a few weeks after June's birth to a litter of kittens, Mellissa got a call about a stray kitten found alone out on the sidewalk. The kitten found was ultra-tiny, weighing only a mere 82 grames. Despite being against all odds, this kitten was vocal and active.
Mellissa immediately offered to help this tiny kitten with no home, knowing how much a mother's love would help this little kitten in need.
This sweet pea was born with what is known as a fever coat, which can happen if the mother had been ill with a high fever during her pregnancy. Because of this, Janie needed to be cared for 24/7, and was placed in a cozy incubator after feedings.
In just 3 days time, Janie was about to reached the 100-gram mark! Mellissa told LoveMeow that during this whole process, Janie would meow and that cry would catch June's attention. "She wanted that baby so bad and kept crying at the incubator."
As Janie put on more weight, her coat gained new patches of darkness which gave her a unusual coloration. Mellissa says, "She was constantly purring and rolling over for belly rubs."
At 2-weeks-old, Janie was finally ready to join Mama June and the other kittens! As soon as June heard Janie's small squeaks, June came running towards her and started to groom Janies from head to toe.
"June immediately accepted Janie as her own as soon as I was able to safely introduce them. June had to lick and clean her for a good 10 minutes, and then she cuddled up with everyone while June's babies were nursing. It was such a sweet moment to witness
One of June's kittens named Jasmine immediately took to her new sister. Jasmine spends extra time with Janie and loves to shower her baby sister with licks and cuddles!
Janie may be 2 weeks younger than the rest of her siblings but she's already figured out how to use the litter box and tries to do everything the other kittens are doing.
"She's getting to the age where she will be able to keep up with other kittens. When she can't find me or her siblings she just cries." Janie is about to take the world by storm.
