As 9News reports, the baby squirrel gliders were abandoned on opposite sides of Brisbane, Australia just days apart. Yet, despite being abandoned, the little creatures are being given a second chance at life. Kerry Schilling of Kerry's Wildlife Rescue and Care told Lily Greer of 9News that "without the work of the good Samaritans who rescued the tiny joeys and took them to the local vet, both babies would have died." And that is as good a reminder as any that all it takes to save a life is calling the vet and getting an animal its proper care.

The babies weigh just 18 and 41 grams, and, for their inability to let each other go after the rescue, the two have been named Romeo and Juliet. Mrs. Schilling said that "[t]hey're nice and cuddly, but they're also a lot of hard work." She's urging anyone who comes across injured wildlife to bring them to their local vet or a wildlife carer, and we couldn't agree more. She explains that a lot of people come to her and say that they saw an injured animal, but when she asks them where it is, they tell her that they simply left it where they found it.

"They're very vulnerable. It's not only cars, it's mostly cats," Schilling explained in relation to the gliders. She is now caring for the little babies, "helping them grow strong enough to return to the wild, hoping Romeo and Juliet will be released together, of course."
