Boss promises "career growth opportunities" after employee hands in their 2-week notice, boss has all but ignored the employee and their contributions for the 3 years they worked with them: 'Suddenly I'm the most valuable employee they've ever had'

In any relationship, you'll never be more appealing to someone who has been disinterested in you and your very presence until you make the decision to strike out on your own. You know how this goes: the moment you start living for yourself and pursuing your own happiness outside of waiting on their approval or attention, suddenly they see you in an entirely new way. You're no longer a boring guaranteed certainty to them; you're someone who has decided to walk out on them. But is it you they really want? Or just the certainty of your presence?

The reality is, in almost every case, it's still not about you. They're still just thinking of themselves, and how they'll have to find someone to replace you… how they won't be getting by with having someone handle everything else for them. Plus, whether you're a business owner who needs to find a new worker to fill a role or someone who is finding themselves newly single, you quickly realize it is expensive out there.

But, when you're the person walking out, always go with your first decision; doubling back isn't going to put things back how they were with the bonus of newfound appreciation. The person you tried to leave is never going to forget that, and if it's your employer, it's more than likely that they're going to try to replace you.

Of course, this is all the way this employee found that their boss they were sweeter than honey, but only after they had put in their 2-week notice. They had been at that company for 3 years and might as well have been the wallpaper for all the attention their boss paid them. But as soon as they handed them their letter of resignation, their boss was fawning all over them… The time for that would have been at any time in the last three years preceding their resignation.

Hey, at least they weren't fired on the spot.
