Black Bear Destroys the Backyard While the House Cat Reacts in the Most Relatable Way

Watching wild animals in their natural habitat can be a peaceful, humbling, and beautiful experience, except when that wild animal is decimating your garden.

Ashlea Touville recently recorded a stealthy video of a young black bear milling about in her yard before completely tearing apart her elaborate bird feeders. The bear is seen wandering about, sitting on his haunches deep in thought, before he proceeds to smell the feast of bird feed waiting for him inside the bird feeders.

Not only are the feeders full of tasty seeds and morsels, but the metal pendulum makes for a fun toy for the bear to mess with before earning a snack. The bear is clearly an adolescent, as he is still very small, but the ease at which he knocks around the bird feeder is a little concerning. However, because he’s a silly bear, he does so a bit clumsily

The bear is closely watched by Ashlea and her spotted house cat, who’s face mirrors anyones natural reaction to having a bear in your backyard.

Ashlea's cat's reaction seems to be the only natural response to this situation. A bear, however derpy they may seem, is an imposing and impressive predator down to their core. Bears are a native predator in many parts of the United States and can have their habitats encroached on by suburbs and developments that threaten their natural way of life. Because bears are so ingenious, they adapt quickly and have found that humans, the cause for their habitat loss, are actually an excellent source for scavenging findings.

The house cat in the video is probably threatened by the bear’s presence as well, as a small furry creature like her would be a tasty meal for a bear. Lucky for the cat, bears are notoriously lazy hunters and prefer to scavenge for easier prey, like a full buffet of bird seed, neatly displayed in crafty puzzle containers.

This may not be a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence for Ashlea, as the bear may likely return for more seed, but it certainly is an interesting up close encounter with a really incredible, powerful species of derp.
