Things couldn’t get much worse, right? Wrong.
Bloomberg has released this year’s Pessimist’s Guide to 2017, spending their time theorizing as to what your social media feeds are going to look like next year. What’d they find? Dissension, secession, recession, and other things ending in -ssion.
Some major hits on their list include Trump signing executive orders to reverse Obama’s legacy, leading new waves of protests and movements to fight him. The great unifier (aka that reality TV gameshow host who won the presidency) also starts an economic war with China, sends Mexico into recession, pulls out of NATO and the UN, which allows terror groups like ISIS to expand, and sends the financial system into a tailspin. America made great again.
But what’s happening around the world. Bloomberg predicts France leaving the E.U., more nativist populism throughout Europe, the Greek economy crashing (again) with no bailout, and Trump’s tweeting putting a halt on iPhone production.
Now, it’s worth noting — very worth noting — that none of these things have happened yet. However, also worth noting that their Pessimist’s Guide to 2016 was pretty close to on the money. They predicted such worst case scenarios as Trump’s presidency and Brexit.
One of the piece’s authors Tweeted out some of the biggest moments to give you a taste of what Twitter might be into for next year. So wipe the sweat from your prow, clutch your childhood blanket, and check them out.
