In the beginning of February 2020, a news outlet local to Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, posted some photos blue dogs that were found on the streets. The photos immediately went viral, and we all daydreamed about a new species of dog that came in all the colors of the rainbow.

Our dreams were quickly dashed when the dogs were taken to a vet. It was discovered that they had been rolling in powdered blue dye at the abandoned glass factory where they had been found. Tests later confirmed that Prussian blue dye was found in the dogs' fur. Aside from being blue, the dogs were healthy and happy.

A few days after the internet became delighted by the blue Russian dogs, another group of dogs were found - but they were green this time. These dogs were found in Podolsk, about 300 miles away from the town with blue dogs.

Some people believe that the green dogs were deliberately colored by someone hoping to gain as much attention as the blue dogs. However, a Moscow regional minister said the dogs were seen near an abandoned warehouse, where powdered green paint had been stored.

But that's not the end of the colorful dogs in Russia. A few days after the green dogs appeared, *another* color of dogs showed up: this time, they were pink. The pink dogs were found in a town one hour away from blue dogs, and the color of their fur seems to have been caused by the same thing. The pink dogs rolled in some chemicals at an abandoned explosive factory, this time turning their fur a lovely shade of pink.

It may seem like there are an unusually high number of abandoned factories or industrial plants for dogs to explore in Russia, and there are. The collapse of the Soviet Union meant that many factories became quickly abandoned - hence the chemicals lying around them. And we know how dogs love to roll in things.

All of the colorful dogs were examined and declared healthy, but it's probably never good for any species to have chemicals on its fur or skin. (We think the vets probably bathed the dogs back to their original colors.)

While blue, green and pink dogs sadly aren't a natural occurrence, we can still appreciate the photos of these good boys and girls, then go give some love to our natural-colored dogs. Because no matter what color their fur is, all doggos deserve love.
