It's a not-unheard-of occurrence in relationships: "either the dog goes or I go." People who set this kind of ultimatum often have a very uninformed view on how much people like their pets. If the cat has been around for 10 years and you've been around for 3 months, don't expect an outcome in your favor. That said, pets aren't always stoic beacons of morality. Truthfully, someone who forces an ultimatum to you about them or your pet are probably not a good fit. I don't think I'd give my cat up for anyone, and anyone who would even remotely expect me to pick them over her probably doesn't know a thing about me. A lot of people clearly feel this way as well, and you can read some stories below of people facing these ultimatums. Spoiler alert: the pet almost always stays and the person goes.
