Choosing a name for an unborn child is one of the coolest things we can do as humans. We literally decide how a person is going to be referenced their whole life. It's kind of a big decision, and not usually one that people make without some serious thought. Most of the time people would agree that it is entirely up to the parents to choose what names they want to use, but sometimes other people in the family will insist on having a say as well, and then things can get uncomfortable.
It was Reddit user u/AITA_disposable who asked the 'Am I The A-Hole' community if he was a jerk for not allowing his father-in-law to single-handedly decide the name of their last child. It's kind of crazy to think about all of the family drama we all have to put up with, even with non-blood-related relatives.
So the writer adds some necessary context to the story. So far there have been patterns in their family when it comes to choosing names for their children. Clearly, it is not a decision they make lightly, they like to have some fun with it.
