Lost Dog Rescued By Ship Crew After Walking Through Arctic Ice For A Week

A dog who had been wandering around in the Arctic for more than a week has been rescued by a crew of a Russian ship! We can not even imagine how difficult and lonely this experience must have been for this poor pup, but we are overwhelmed with happiness that the doggo has been recovered and safely returned to his beloved owners.

According to NBC News: "Sailors spotted the pup deep in the ice fields near the village of Mys Kamenny on the Yamal Peninsula, in northern Russia. Captain of the Alexander Sannikov icebreaker ship, Yegor Agapov, told sources that the dog approached the side of the vessel on the freezing landscape toward an oil terminal in the Gulf of Ob. Video footage showed the little white dog, named Aika, wagging her tail and walking carefully on the ice before the crew lowered a ladder for her to climb up."

"Navigation assistant Evgeny Nagibin said: 'We put out the ladder, by which the dog climbed aboard on its own. Later, with the help of mobile phone, we established contact with the local population, found the owner of the dog." Wow. We can't begin to imagine how difficult this must have been not only for Aika, but also for her owner Svetlana. Thank goodness Aika is alright and they have been reunited!

The dog was unlikely to have survived if she had not been spotted by the ship's crew! That arctic ice is no joke at all and although Aika is used to cold Russian conditions, she would not have been able to make it much longer. Aika's grateful owner Svetlana Chereshneva said: "The dog didn't go anywhere without us, we have no idea how she got there." Via NBC News.
