It may be the end of Pride month, but thanks to IKEA, the celebration is ending on a hilarious note. IKEA Canada unveiled a line of couches inspired by the myriad 2SLGBTQ+ Pride flags in late June, and (of course) Twitter users are having a field day with the flamboyant furniture. The love seats, which were designed by 4 2SLGBTQ+ artists, are an attempt at showing that there's more to Pride than a rainbow. And while they definitely succeeded and are receiving some praise for the approach, the designs have not been spared by the mocking keyboards of Twitter.
The most widely ridiculed design has been the "Bisexual Couch," a pink, blue, and purple explosion that's covered in hands and the words "When you change OR to AND, nobody believes you." The wild design and somewhat foreboding text has a lot of people calling out the creepiness of both the message and the general design. Horror movies, anyone? The memes inspired the couch's designer to explain the intent, but that hasn't stopped the bisexual love seat memes. Or memes about the couches in general. And while the well-meaning campaign has been turned into a bit of a joke, it is a huge success if we think about the exposure all the flags are getting. The laughs don't hurt, either.
