The thing to remember about life is that chaos is inevitable. Sure, we can try to minimize our screwups, but every successful venture incurs a debt to the Gods of Chaos. And we can never be sure when it will be their time to collect in the form of blunders, goofs, mistakes and failures.
There's a balance that we must achieve in life to keep our expectations reasonable. It's a skill in and of itself. We must acknowledge that it's possible for things to go horribly wrong. But we must also work for and hope that things will go catastrophically right. It can be difficult to hold both of these beliefs in our minds simultaneously. But when done right, we can achieve just about anything.
In this case, things didn't go as planned. But lucky for most of us, this is the outlier to the norm. So let's take our hats off to the Gods of "Things going right most of the time," who were not present in these instances. It's a whole pantheon.
