Not all of use are blessed with rudimentary math or internet research skills, and that combination means sometimes we are forced to learn things the hard, embarrassing, and stupid way. Redditor u/Bayramtee displayed an example of this phenomenon with their post on Reddit's r/tifu, describing a family dinner in which he brought up a now-proven bad internet claim that a certain billionaire could give every human $1 billion and still have a significant amount of money remaining. The real question to ask here might be whether it's fair or ethical for one individual to have this much money in the first place, but it's not exactly incredibly relevant to this specific post. Good on our original poster's parents for letting him know he was wrong, here. We can't have people doing math this poorly.
Fortunately, when the OP realized he was in the wrong, he did relent — only to invite his family to make fun of him for a long time coming for this critical mathematical error. For another case of someone fighting a meaningless and stupid battle, here's Tumblr explaining burgergate, the most unnecessary chicken sandwich drama.
