This story about silly IT bureaucracy at a tech company is a fairly innocent tale; nobody gets fired or publicly shamed in the end, but it is a perfect example of a mildly disgruntled employee exposing an unnecessarily involved workflow process. When Reddit user u/node_of_ranvier was tasked with pulling thousands of data points from a database the IT department denied them access to, they did the only thing they really could: bombard the IT department with requests for this data until they understood it made significantly more sense to give one person access for a specific project rather than drag the entire IT department down with extra work. Do not mistake this for a tale of personal revenge, — it's just one guy making sure to highlight a particular process at work that did not make sense.
It's just how it goes; if you make a particular task extremely inconvenient and time-consuming for someone, and then offer them a convenient solution, they're much more inclined to accept your help. For another fine tale of technological wizardry, here's one where a manager made an employee's life miserable and wound up getting auto-insulted hundreds of times a day.
