Reddit user StretchRmstrong tells this story that took place when he was working as a customer service representative for a major telecom company.
StretchRmstrong states that "it's not as fun of a job as one might expect." Now, it might just be me but I've never once thought that working customer service in a call center would be a fun place to be. It sounds terrible actually. Having worked retail, I know first-hand how terrible people can be when they are face to face with you. So talking to people over the phone, where it is easier for them to dehumanize you, must be an absolute nightmare.
StretchRmstrong shares how, in this engagement, he did exactly what the customer asked him to do when he called to cancel his television service. The thing is... that's not really what the customer wanted. The customer wanted StretchRmstrong to give him a discount in order to keep him as a customer.
It must be satisfying to get to take a bit of revenge back on horrible customers by doing exactly what they wanted just like this.
Another classic example of malicious compliance in customer service!
