This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/leigh10021. It tackles the trending topic of terrible landlords, which has seen a rise in recent months with some people even asking landlords for references, like Australian comedian Tom Cashman.
This landlord tried to swindle his tenants out of money by lying and trying to withhold their deposit. (Honestly, who hasn't experienced that???) But he took so long to return part of their deposit that he opened up to a lawsuit.
Luckily, this ended up costing him a little more than $400. He probably could have carpeted the entire room for the amount that this little maneuver ended up costing him. Although, I can't pretend that I am any sort of expert on how much it costs to redo flooring these days.
Unfortunately, he's more than likely to just recoup this money with all the other BS reasons he's coming up with to keep other tenants' deposits.
