Giving Senior Cats Love: Wholesome Stories Of Adopting Senior Kitties

The one thing that we, as editors at ICanHas, endlessly love to read are animal adoption stories. Every single animal that finds a forever home is one that we are happy for. And we love every adoption story. But… there is one category of adoption story that always gets to us on a different level, and that's senior pet adoption stories. 

Seniors are animals who get left behind so often, sitting in shelters for months on end, if not years, so someone actually deciding to take on the difficult responsibility of adopting one is someone that, in our opinions, is worth of celebration. So, when our incredible users decided to share their senior cat adoption stories with us, it felt only right to share them with the rest of you guys as well and continue spreading this joy to more people.

    Not only adopted a senior but rescued her as well. We wish we got to read a million more of these stories - of people caring and going out of their ways to help senior fluffballs. We have found, from reading all of your stories over the years, that rescued senior pets are some of the most loving ones in the world.

    There is always the fear that if you adopt a senior cat, or any senior pet, you won't get to be with them very long, and the heartbreak of losing a pet is like no other. And that really is a risk. But, it's not always the case that you won't have a long time with them - like here. This cutie - disheveled and adorable - has been adopted as a senior and it still living her best life, and we hope she gets to live for much, much longer.

    Human - Jennan Kellogg My sibling and I went to the shelter to adopt a kitten because we'd just rescued a feral kitten who needed a friend. While we were there, we met 16 year old Mandolina. We told mom about her because mom loves black cats and has a special place in her heart for senior cats.     Cat - Callie MB My husband and I adopted our beautiful Coco at 3 years old. She enchanted us when she tapped my foot with her paw and then did the "tail shimmer" when we were walking past her. Our sweet darlings, Noah and Jack (also adopted at ages 5 and 6 as rescue cats) had sadly crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We needed a cat to rescue us as well and Coco found us. Bless her.
