There's something to be said about following through on promises here. When this company promised this worker a raise a year ago and then refused to follow through all they were doing was stacking dominos.
It doesn't seem unfair to expect a promised raise especially in the light of dramatically increased production. Honestly, it's hard to see what the company was expecting here other than the loss of this valuable employee.
It's going to cost them a lot more than the raise that he was asking for to train someone new up for the role. By then they will have probably lost this $3 million project for good too.
