Every now and then it's called to our attention that the natural world is more mystifying than we think. The subreddit and Twitter account for @Nature_Is_Lit does a very good job of cataloging beautiful landscapes, strange and beautiful creatures, and natural phenomena that surprise and delight. Yesterday, the account shared a bizarre and intriguing image of natural sand formations off the coast of Lake Michigan. The formations, which are created by the wind, are beautiful and alien - something out of a surrealist painting or perhaps a Dr. Seuss book. While the elegance of the spontaneous sculptures isn't funny, the memers of Twitter still managed to take the photo and turn it into something funny. It's a skill that we appreciate - even when we're just trying to look at nice things.
