According to Know Your Meme, the "Birds Aren't Real" movement is a "satirical conspiracy theory claiming that birds are mechanized surveillance drones disguised as living organisms." The meme has been around since 2017, but recently the Birds Aren't Real movement has been gaining traction thanks to zoomers on TikTok who think the joke is hilarious. One TikToker in particular has taken up the torch and become the face of Bird's Aren't Real for Gen Z.
When WGN-TV invited @birdsarentreal to speak about the movement, they probably didn't know what they were getting into. In a viral clip from the segment, one of the anchors asks the TikToker if people actually think the movement is real, @birdsarentreal briefly talks about Gen Z, takes a sip from his mug, and then spews the liquid all over the place. WGN-TV cuts away from the stream and shows footage from Birds Aren't Real protests, but the sound of @birdsarentreal coughing and choking in the background is still audible.
