It hit the fan when this manager, u/hollandaisecrabcake, went on vacation, leaving their subordinate in charge of a key client. u/hollandaisecrabcake claims that they gave their subordinate all the time in the world to collect the files and information that they might need while u/hollandaisecrabcake was gone.
I would say that it's probably pretty likely that this subordinate had no idea that they would need this file before u/hollandaisecrabcake was out of contact. They probably had their own caseload to manage and worry about so, especially since u/hollandaisecrabcake is their boss, I really do feel like the blame falls on u/hollandaisecrabcake for losing the client. Yeah, it sucks to feel like you can't go on vacation and it sucks just as much to have to answer calls on vacation. But you need to leave your subordinates in a position where they can handle things without you.
u/tyromania said it best in the comments: "It's your coworker's fault, but it's your responsibility."
