On Friday, November 28, 2014, u/DO_U_EVN_SPAGHETTI asked Reddit a legendary question: "What tasty food would be disgusting if eaten over rice?" Thousands of people responded, requesting u/DO_U_EVN_SPAGHETTI to try things like Mentos over rice, jelly beans over rice, pancakes over rice, mustard over rice, and even ice over rice. The redditor answered hundreds of requests, rating each "over rice" dish they tried, making for a hilariously absurd thread.

  • "When a user named waterguy12 said he was going somewhere without internet for a few weeks and asked Reddit to tag him on funny Reddit posts so he could see the highlights from when he was gone" —u/tcherry720

    Cheezburger Image 9662235136

In the summer of 2017, redditor u/WaterGuy12 announced to the r/me_irl subreddit that he was going to be without an internet connection for two weeks. He asked redditors to comment on any "good memes" with his username so that he wouldn't miss out on anything. What happened was pretty remarkable. "u/WaterGuy12 would love this" became a sort of slogan and meme of its own. So many redditors tagged u/WaterGuy12 in comments that a user by the name of u/FireGuy12 inevitably emerged, claiming to be a sort of arch-rival to u/WaterGuy12.

When he finally regained internet access, u/WaterGuy12 was astounded by the outcome of one simple request. He posted a note to r/me_irl that read, "Riding a train, wake up to discover I have become a meme. Not just a little inside meme, a full blown reddit meme…Thank you for making sure I didn't miss anything!"

  • "The time Greenpeace had a contest to name a whale, redditors flooded the poll with Mr Splashy Pants and Greenpeace went with it" —u/chr15_eat0n

    Nose

On November 26, 2007, back before there were even subreddits, redditor u/_black posted a thread announcing that Greenpeace were having a vote to name a whale. u/_black said in the post, "All the options are the names of ancient gods of the sea. And then there's 'Mister Splashy Pants.' Please vote 'Mister Splashy Pants.'"

Because u/_black's post was amplified by websites like Digg and BoingBoing, Mister Splashy Pants ended up winning in a landslide with 78% of the votes. According to Greenpeace, of the 119,367 votes that went to Mister Splashy Pants, 20,322 of those votes came from Reddit.

  • "Woody Harrelson AMA" —u/TigLyon

Forehead - DOES AMA N LINE C A Tarer Cam ONLY WANTS TO ANSWERS QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MOVIE HE'S PROMOTING memegenerator.net

On February 3, 2012, actor Woody Harrelson (or his PR guy) hopped onto Reddit to do an "ask me anything" (AMA).

The post read, "Hi Reddit, it's Woody here. I'm in New York today doing interviews for my new film Rampart, which opens in theaters on February 10th. I'll be checking in from 3-4EST today and will get to as many of your questions as I can, so start asking now! Be back soon."

Harrelson didn't really get a chance to promote Rampart, as this was Reddit, where anything can happen. When a redditor called u/AndyRooney replied to the thread, claiming that Harrelson had slept with one of his high school classmates, everything went downhill from there.

"I swear this is a true story." u/AndyRooney commented, I went to high school in LA and you crashed our prom after party. You ended up taking the virginity of a girl named Roseanne. You didn't call her afterwards. She cried a lot."

The more Harrelson attempted to refocus the conversation onto his film, the more redditors ensured the Woody Harrelson AMA would become a meme.

  • "The guy who threw a steak out a window" —u/PAP_test_account

    Food

On August 27, 2005, redditor u/defenestrate_me_now posted a thread in r/TIFU in which he admitted to throwing an "under-cooked steak" out the window so as not to offend his wife's boss, only to find that the window was not open.

"Last night, my wife's boss from her brand new job invited us over for dinner" u/defenestrate_me_now begins, "On the drive over, my wife reiterated many times to me just how important it was to make a good impression."

He talks about chitchatting over drinks with his wife and her boss. They all seemed to be hitting it off. Things took a turn when the boss brought out the first course—very rare steak. OP then goes into detail about his steak preferences. "I've had my fair share of rare steak. I prefer medium, but I can handle rare. This was several-minutes-on-a-hot-grill short [sic] of rare. I probably could have resuscitated the cow had I tried."

Rather than speaking up and potentially humiliating his wife, he decided to throw the steak out the window the moment their host wasn't looking. To OP's horror, the window was closed. "…my mostly raw slab of steak slammed up against it and slowly slid down leaving a trail of bloody juice in its wake."

Compared to some of the more epic things that have happened on Reddit, this post might not stand out as something "legendary." But the thread as a whole represents a pure example of how wonderful Reddit can be sometimes—just a bunch of strangers on the internet appreciating a hilarious story.

  • "The guy who took to many edibles before dinner with his in-laws then claimed the bread was too spicy" —u/neko_courtney

    Forehead

Another classic tale of slapstick calamity from r/TIFU. On January 9, 2018, u/drmcsinister posted a thread entitled, "TIFU by stuffing my face with edibles before dinner with my wife's parents." On a family trip to Denver, u/drmcsinister got a little too excited about Colorado's marijuana legalization status. After visiting a dispensary and immediately consuming large doses of marijuana, things started to get weird for OP on the way to a family dinner with the in-laws.

u/drmcsinister goes into detail: "I don't remember how I made it to my seat, and I don't remember even looking at the menu, but I do remember the concerned look on the waiter's face as he asked me if I was doing alright. 'Keep it together, man,' I say to myself. But my wife's sudden groan suggests that I may have also said that to the waiter. Things are going downhill fast."

Hilarity reminiscent of a stoner comedy ensues. OP complains that the bread rolls are too spicy. He becomes untethered from reality while attempting to pee in a urinal. Paranoia sets in. The story is a hilariously written example of everyone's weed-induced nightmare.

  • "The Foot taco AMA" —u/ShadeOfNothing

    Drum

    Content Warning: Cannibalism mentioned.

On June 6, 2018, redditor u/IncrediblyShinyShart started a thread on r/IAmA. In his post, u/IncrediblyShinyShart claims to have eaten a portion of his own amputated leg.

"So the quick and dirty; About 2 years ago I was hit on my motorcycle" he explains, "The [sic] salvaged my foot but I would never be able to walk on it. I elected to have it amputated. I asked the doctors to keep it. I signed some papers. I got it back, and with the help of some friends cooked a portion of the tibialis anterior." He then links to photographic proof of "foot tacos" and his "stump."

The top comment in the thread is one made by u/tacofeet, who asks, "So do you want to trade usernames or......?"

Another traumatized redditor chimes in, "Reddit needs a second button after you click to show nsfw that says: 'naw man this isn't titties it's some actual ass-puckering shit you still wanna see?'" The comments go on and on like this.

  • "The vacuum cleaner repairman's AMA" —u/xocadoj

Personal computer - repairnet /TOUCHMYFUOR ING coffee 28/10/2013 AMA dyson KIRB

On October 28, 2013, a vacuum cleaner repairman called u/touchmyfuckingcoffee started a thread on r/IAmA to answer everyone's pressing and urgent questions about vacuum cleaners.

"I work in vacuum repair and sales." says u/touchmyfuckingcoffee, "I posted comments recently about my opinion of Dysons and got far more interest than I expected. I am brand certified for several brands. My intent in doing this AMA is to help redditors make informed choices about their purchases."

OP answers thousands of questions about vacuums ranging from funny to wholesomely earnest. u/touchmyfuckingcoffee's AMA is special because it's a perfect example of how r/IAmA embraces everyone from presidential candidates to repairpeople. In its own words, r/IAMA is a place where "the mundane becomes fascinating and the outrageous suddenly seems normal."

The comment was in response to a post by u/MBMMaverick, in which they complain about the requirement to use credits in order to unlock characters in EA's video game Star Wars Battlefront II.

"Seriously? I paid 80$ to have Vader locked?" u/MBMMaverick posted.

In an attempt to defend their position, u/EACommunityTeam responded, "The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay." They go on to thank redditors for their feedback.

Within days, memes roasting EA emerged and spread all over the internet. u/EACommunityTeam's comment racked up thousands of downvotes.
