Making new friendships as an adult is way more challenging than it was as a kid. Back in the day, we would just go up to other children who were in the same class as us, give them a hug, and suddenly we were best friends. As we grew older into the adults we are today, we grew more jaded about who we could really trust in our lives. While making new friends is hard, upgrading friendship levels is even harder, especially when we're not sure if the other person wants to take the friendship to the next level. We all have plenty of acquaintances, but we're often unsure of how to take those friendships to the next level, and we don't mean that in a romantic sense. Twitter user @RaxKingIsDead joked about how we should take friendships to the next level in a tweet she posted and questioned where the nearest public notary is. Because some of us aren't really sure how to advise her as we're wondering the exact same thing, the answers she received in the Twitter thread aren't serious for the most part. Good things jokes are what we're here to see because we can't take anything seriously and we use humor as a coping mechanism. Cheers to friendship upgrades!
The first thing about promoting a friend is seeing if they're even interested in a promotion. Of course, there are pros to getting upgraded as a friend, but there are also cons, such as being able to put up with us when we're being our worst selves or being for us during the most challenging times. The pros of a deeper friendship generally outweigh the cons, so we're assuming the person we're interested in promoting will be equally interested in our offer. The Cheezcake team recommends going out to happy hour with the friend of interest, getting totally wasted, and then spilling your deepest, darkest secrets to one another. Then you're tied together for life.
The older we get, the more we believe that little kids have had it figured out all along. There's so many things about childhood that we lost overtime, and we seriously need to bring the golden days back. Kids really just go up to kids they've never seen before and decide that they're best friends because they're wearing similar sweaters that day. They can also be doing anything silly together and have a great time no matter what. We miss that innocence so much, and we would love to bring it back to our lives again. The first step is approaching adult friendships as if we're kids again.
