Here on Fail Blog, we talk a lot about people taking everyday things way too far. This is no exception to that rule. Imagine taking your motherly devotion and sacrifice that you (hopefully) made with some degree of choice and turning it from a beautiful commitment into a cynical and twisted burden for your children.
This absolutely can not be normal? Can it? If this is common practice in some families, then I have just had my entire worldview shaken. Does anyone else's family do this?
Don't get me wrong; if we were acting up and being disrespectful to my mother, she would occasionally throw out the "I brought you into this world." shtick. But never, under any circumstances, did she ever expect us to give us presents on her birthday. On those days, she would pour adoration on us, and then on mother's day and her birthday, we would attempt to match her unrequited love.
Imagine growing up in the "Bizzaro World" that u/ThrowawayBirthdayx96 has. You wouldn't be sure which way was up after getting out of that family because something tells me that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
