We all had different upbringings. Some of us were raised with more gentle chores and expectations to be polite, while others were sent to etiquette class and could not be caught dead putting the knife and fork on the wrong side of the table. At the end of the day, table manners are just social norms, legally you do not need to follow them, nobody gets hurt if you don't. But if you're in a fancy restaurant with your girlfriend, does it hurt to abide by her expectations for public behavior?
This couple went to a nicer restaurant together, and the GF (the OP) shared that she grew up with a little more money than her BF and thus has more experience behaving a certain way in fancier restaurants, and for whatever reason, her boyfriend wanted to send a clear message to the restaurant by obnoxiously sipping through 3 straws. Wh do you think is in the wrong here?
