There are a lot of problems that looking at memes is never going to solve. They will never pay our bills, or get us out of that dead end job we hate. They can't give us a hug when we're down, nor can they get rid of a consuming feeling of loneliness.
Some people might argue that in fact, memes don't do very much at all. There's only so much we can expect from little pictures with text on them, no matter how many things that they manage to tell us.
On one level, this is probably true. It has to be admitted that they are not a necessity. At the same time, though, they manage to fill a void in a way that many other things fail to replicate. The feeling may be temporary, but the desire to keep coming back again is forever. There is a certain kind of specialness to that.
