Cat Mom Keeps Her Kittens Safe Under A Trunk From Rain Until They Are Found And Taken Into A Warm Home

Just in time to celebrate mother's day, we have one of the most heartwarming cat stories to bring you yet this year. We already know that cat moms are awwmazing - for so many reasons. This cat mom had kept her newborn kittens safe under the trunk of a car until she was rescued, knowing that they would not have survived in that kind of bad weather. As reported by Love Meow, A family from the Bronx, New York accidentally discovered three kittens under a trunk in their yard. They were born there, in really bad weather, and the cat mother tried to keep them warm and out of the rain, knowing that the weather had been inclement and not safe for newborn babies. Thankfully, the homeowners understood that the kitties needed help, so they moved them to a sheltered area and brought food to the mom.

Simultaneously, they also reached out to Little Wanderers NYC, a volunteer-based animal rescue organization in New York, to try to get the cat family the help that they needed to truly thrive. "When Lisa, our co-founder, got word, she let me know because I had just finished up fostering a mom and babies, and we had space," Megan, a foster volunteer, explained.

"The family who found them, very generously offered to get them in a carrier and drive them to me. These guys really went above and beyond." Megan and her partner, Tyrone, took the feline family in yesterday. Immediately, the mom cat walked out of the carrier and into her new abode. She walked around the space, inspecting, and discovered plenty of food, various amenities, and loving humans who welcomed her with open arms. So, she gave them her stamp of approval.

She approached her humans for some head scratches almost right away. "She jumped over the playpen we had set up, and wandered all over our office (aka the foster room). She trusted us immediately," Megan said.

"She kept an eye on me when I weighed her three babies but didn't mind me handling them. They were all at a great weight and looked healthy (no eye issues or runny noses)." The sweet momma has done a pawnderful job of keeping her kittens fed, clean and safe from the elements.

After roaming the streets for a long as she had, the mom cat could finally relax in her comfy bed without worrying about where her next meal would come from. "Mama loves her babies but clearly has an adventurous spirit and likes to explore the room and hang out with us. Over night she moved the babies to a cardboard box we had set up to keep them safe."

Today, the kittens are starting to open their eyes, kicking their legs in the air like roly-polies and trying to figure out balance. Mama, it seems, is more than content to simply be indoors, coming out of her nest to greet her foster parents. "Fostering is so critical to everything rescues try to accomplish, and I wish more people would get involved. We get so many requests for help, and the more fosters there are, the more lives can be saved," Megan explained.

"A spare part of a room and a little love can make such a massive difference." With the help of this kind family and many volunteers, the kittens are already putting on weight and gaining strength, and it truly seems like Mama could not be happier.
