Judging by the stories we've seen on Reddit and Twitter, an awfully large percentage of brides can actually be referred to as "bridezillas", a term that Dictionary.com defines as follows:
"a soon-to-be bride who is overly involved with the details of her wedding and becomes extremely self-centered, demanding, or otherwise difficult to tolerate"
I had to be a bridesmaid for one such terror, and it's made me nearly unwilling to be part of a wedding party ever again. As bad as this harpy was, her entitled behavior and need for attention are nothing compared to what Twitter user @Zioraife had to deal with, and from her cousin, no less.
OP describes her terrible experience in a Twitter thread, which has garnered a lot of sympathy from users all over the globe.
It seems that @Zioraife's cousin has denied her the position of Maid of Honor because she's “too fat.” The insult was so great that OP decided she's simply not going to attend the occasion. We don't blame her. At the end of her thread, she says that the only way she'll appease her family by going to the gym is if she's gifted the money for a membership (The numbers she uses are related to Nigerian currency, and are equal to about $50 a month.)
While most people were sympathetic to @Zioraife's plight, some people thought she should either suck it up and lose the weight, or simply attend as a regular wedding guest. We're gonna have to side with the sympathizers, though. We're not about shallow people, and this bride has definitely proved herself to be just that.
