In early June, Patrick Star was brought into the Winchester SPCA. No, it wasn't the same affable pink sea star from Bikini Bottom. This Patrick Star was a sweet, adorable, somewhat skittish, weeks-old kitty.
Not much is known about the domestic shorthair's life before he became a resident of the shelter, even if his cat mustache gives off the appearance he starred in a 1980s cop drama. The origin of his interesting name is unknown, as well.
Story written by Alex Lemieux.
Patrick Star acts quite the opposite of his cartoon counterpart. He isn't a manic, rambunctious Echinoderm but a rather soft-tempered, timid little guy.
It's possible he wasn't around cats very much in his short life before becoming a part of the shelter's temporary crowd. Nevertheless, Patrick Star has been growing bigger every day, learning "how to cat," and is on the road to becoming a stand-up feline for anyone to enjoy.
Patrick Star found his niche in the local shelter by being the "fly on the wall" around various feline cliques. As the cats in the interaction room were leaping over cat nooks, barreling their ways through the fabric tubes, and scratching away on cardboard posts, Patrick Star was closer to the outside of the room, taking in what was before him.
He didn't have much experience with other cats before becoming part of their shelter's makeshift family, but he's still willing to learn. But that means engaging them at his speed.
Instead of rolling around the floor with the other cats, challenging each other over the toy mouse flung across the room by another cat, Patrick Star visits the various playthings and activity sections after the crowd leaves. For now, he'd rather take in the smells left by others before he jumps in to play. Even though he may give off the impression that he's an adult cat with his near-mustachioed black and white face, Patrick Star is still very young, so he still has a lot of learning to do.
Though, his continued growth and learning will now take place away from the shelter. Just one month after he joined the feline brigade in the SPCA, he went home with his loving cat parents, ready to give him the life he deserves.
