"She was a foster fail. She had an ear polyp and at the time because of her age the organization was to do a less expensive approach to treatment. It wasn't working and they wouldn't do surgery. (FYI the organization changed board members so this wouldn't happen again)So we adopted Clara and paid for the surgery ourselves. She lives another three years and passed away at 17 years."

"Of my four cats, 3 were near seniors when i adopted them but Sox was the only true senior at 9 years old. His first adopt-versary was this weekend. He joined the family after my 19 yo boy passed away last year and i was looking for another black and white boy to be with my Smokie. Sox actually lost his brother the week before my boy passed, so fate brought us together.
Due to covid and distance, i didn't actually meet him until he arrived at my house on adoption day. Luckily he settled in and we bonded quickly. It took a little time for Sox and Smokie to get along (they are the same age), but now I think they are Bonnie and Clyde - plotting what antics to get up to next."

"My Honey was 11 when I inherited her from my best friend when she passed away unexpectedly. I lost Honey a few weeks ago when she developed an aggressive cancer. She was only mine for six months but she was loved, and I miss her everyday."

"My beautiful calico Polly was not a senior but was in the shelter for 5 years (dumped in their parking lot when she was a kitten). No one adopted this gorgeous cat because she shied away when anyone tried to pet her. I adopted her. Turns out the problem was that she's got bad ears and cannot stand to have them touched. Everyone was going in to pet her head and she was like "NO!" because of her ears. I figured that out and all has been great since!"

"My daughter's Girl Scout troop took a trip to the animal shelter. At the shelter my daughter saw Magnolia who was 13 years old and had been at the shelter for 3 months (the longest of any cat there). She told us she wanted to adopt her, so we did.
Magnolia is seriously the best cat I have ever had and you can see how happy she is with her little girl.
We have had her for about 1 year and 2 months."

"Felix came from a friend that found a litter abandoned near her house. She kept bugging me about taking one. I had another senior at the time and didn't want another cat. I also had a boyfriend that wanted another cat. Got rid of the boyfriend and kept Felix. He'll be 13 in the fall."

"I was out looking for a kitten when a friend told me about some fosters that were up for adoption at a small shelter near her. I made an appointment (during early months of Covid) to check them out. While visiting them, I saw this large Nordic-type cat in a big cage near a window. The woman there said that he was thirteen and an insulin dependent diabetic, and she expected he would not be adopted. I knew the cute kittens would get a home, so I picked up the senior instead. I've had Perseus now for almost one year, and it's the best decision I've made in years. Seniors are the best"

"We lost our pupper almost a year ago, and around her birthday, my fiancé said he was interested in maybe getting a cat. I showed him a pic of this old dude, and he'd already seen him and wanted him. Next day, the cat formerly known as Scrappy (shelter given, real name unknown, if he even ever had one) became our Thomas O'Malley. Our vet thinks he's either around 10-11, or he's had one hell of a tough life already!"

"He was 9yo and returned to the rescue because he didn't get along with the new puppy and the puppy won. He was having issues with his eye so the rescue had it removed. I HAD to have him and have never regretted that decision. After going through not one, but two prior homes he is now in his furever home and has stolen my heart"

"We were chosen by Sammi just under 15 years ago. We went looking for a kitten but this poor fella was 9months old and already abandoned twice (didn't take long to realise why, many behaviour issues!). We have given him a loving home and are keeping him comfortable whilst he goes through the last months of his life (if we reach Christmas it will be an achievement!)."

"Saw her on pet finder. The owner lived in the same town as me. She was 12 or 13, they werent sure. I went and got her the next morning. That was in 2020 before the shutdown, so that makes her 14 or 15 . Shes pretty frisky for an older girl but she's also lovey Her name is Lila!"

"Adopted our boy 3 years ago at the age of 9. He was turned in to the shelter for no longer being "a good fit" at his old home. It's not been easy with lingering litter box issues, but he is loved & l do not regret it one bit."

"Saw a pic online from local rescue. Senior ex-feral tomcat that just had third-eyelid surgery, all his teeth removed and neutered. Sweet guy, maybe a bit grumpy, Estimated to be 10yo. He was much older and much grumpier than they indicated. The first year I shed a lot of tears, cried in despair. One minute he'd be sucking up love and pets, next minute he'd viciously turn and attack me in the face. It's been 2 years. He's now mostly blind, mostly deaf and still grumpy. But no recent attacks."
