Airbnb Host Screws Over Tenants After He Is Suddenly ‘Overbooked,’ Offers Them a Pricier Loft Instead With No Discount

Airbnb can either provide you with some of the best times of your life or some of the worst. There are countless stories from people who get scammed, who show up to double bookings, who arrive at an old well in ancient Egypt… just kidding about the last one. But in all seriousness, as amazing as Airbnb can be, some of its hosts don't respect its policies. Y'know, the policies that are there for good reason. It's one of the worst feelings in the world when you have all your travel plans mapped out, and things change at the last minute because somebody is being an asshole. One such story was uploaded recently to the subreddit on Reddit, ‘mildlyinfuriating’, by the user veritas__a3aquitas__, and just reading it brought back some not-so-fond relatable memories. Titled, ‘If you needed another reason to hate Airbnb…’ the user begins their tale of woe.

Hi, I'm Here To P*ss You Off

Apparently two weeks before they were supposed to arrive, they received a mildly infuriating message (per the title of the subreddit) from their host who told them that there was an availability conflict for those particular dates, and offered a ‘solution’ by giving them another loft, that it seems per the original posters answer, was more expensive. The nerve… the original poster stayed coolheaded and respectfully told them off, and in addition, told them that they were not interested in changing the reservation - but that they would be open to discussing it if the host would be willing to give them a discount on the loft they had offered in ‘compensation’ so that they wouldn't pay more. We don't know about you, but we'd be popping off on the host. Some people are really impressive with their ability to stay calm in maddening situations. Have a look for yourself at the whole shebang that went down.

The Host Is Not Passing The Vibe Check

What's the point in a reservation if two weeks before you're arriving for your well-deserved vacation, you get this kind of message? The commenters had a lot to say about the incident, and we laughed a little too hard at some of the things they wrote. Take a peep at some of the next comments. We're kinda here for the humor, because what better way to try to make the most of a situation than to laugh about it?

In Other Words, I Hope Your Week Goes To Sh*t

Oh, The Games Ppl Play…

Marketing ploy, indeed! The ‘Hey, we appreciate the business you give us, but no we will not fulfill that completely legitimate request you had for us, and yes we will try to ensure that the rest of your week goes to sh*t. Thanks for your time and patience, ta ta!'

When Jerry Makes Sense

Not gonna lie, the Seinfeld reference gave us a good chuckle. Anyhow, we hope that nobody is gonna enter any kind of similar situation soon because it sucks to be in this position. As for the conclusion, it seems that the user is trying to accommodate and help out, agreeing to the change.

Switcheroo Update

What can we say, people? Some folks just have a tad too much audacity, and though we don't like to judge, we kinda judge this host. So here's to hoping that Airbnb will fix its many issues, but we aren't holding our breath. We hope it all worked out in the end for this user, and we all know what goes around tends to come back around… in other words, karma. Peace!
