Anyone who has adopted before knows it's no walk in the park. With adoption come many responsibilities and commitments. Not only financial but moral and emotional as well. Before adopting a cat from the shelter, one must do as much research as possible about a. being a cat parent and b. getting your cat to trust you. If a cat is in an animal shelter it's most likely because it was abandoned by previous owners or given up for not being perfect. Any human would be traumatized from an experience like this, so imagine how these poor cats may feel.
When taking in a rescue or a feral from the streets, it's important we respect their boundaries and give them as much time as they need to adapt and feel comfortable with us. Mind you, this can take weeks, months, and even years. So if that doesn't sound like something you are willing to deal with, you might want to think again about whether you're ready to be a cat parent. Nevertheless, if you do end up adopting and go through the process of earning your cats' trust, know it will all be worth it in the end. If you don't believe us then have a look at these real-life stories from fellow cat people.
"It took a lot of time, patience, and love before they would trust us. But that moment when they first come up to you to cuddle and fall into a deep, totally relaxed sleep. That moment of absolute trust is overwhelming." That's all we're saying
"…The last night she spent in our bed cuddling us both and letting us cuddle her. I'm sure she was saying thank you, especially to my ex who had given her the peaceful spoilt life she deserved"
Wow, we can't believe what we just read. Your ex sounds like an amazing human being, bless his soul.
