We all know by now that the key to keeping us all as hooked on memes as we are is the element of randomness. A little remixing here and a surprise or two there, and with any luck we get an end product that enough people will find funny for the two seconds that they spend looking at it. The only problem is that there isn't always a straightforward formula for making a meme that is good or popular; we can ride the wave of famous formats, but it doesn't mean that it's always going to be a success. Sometimes, the best method for memeing comes from throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. There is no guarantee that things are going to turn out great, but at least they might be interesting. That is what all of us get to be the judge of, and it's a privilege to do so.
